Our cover story focuses on the role our faculty play as teacher-scholars: teaching in the classroom and conducting research projects, innovative endeavors, or creative productions. As an undergraduate and student-focused university, IU South Bend promotes the engagement of students and faculty together in these efforts, and you’ll see how our faculty are addressing real- world problems in inspired, exciting ways.
We are also excited to put our new five-year strategic plan into action. IU South Bend is at a historic moment, with many opportunities to do an even better job achieving our mission as our region’s only public university. Inside you’ll read about the plan’s five goals and how they are guiding us toward actions that will impact this campus for years to come.
We are already making progress on our new goals, which is crucial to our work as a community catalyst, changing students’ lives and the lives of those around them. Alumna Christine Deutscher is an energizing example of that; her story inside illustrates the power of an IU degree and the ways in which she helps our neighbors in need. Likewise, the article capturing our School of Education’s inaugural Symposium on Educational Inclusion shows how we catalyzed conversations and reflections on one of our time’s most thought-provoking topics. Our stories about new minors offered on campus, and our Ernestine M. Raclin School for the Arts and WNIT working together to bring campus performances to more viewers are examples of how IU South Bend serves as a force for good in our communities.
Part of our success in achieving the goals of our new plan and continuing our forward momentum will be receiving support from you, our alumni and friends. We hope you are as inspired by these stories as we are. Please join us in celebrating our students, faculty, alumni, and their amazing achievements.
With Hoosier Spirit and Titan Pride,
