Alumni Come Together in Battle of the Decades
In a new initiative last fall, the IU South Bend Alumni Association asked alumni to come together in support of student scholarships through the Battle of the Decades. Grouped by degree decades, our graduates competed to see which decade could raise the most money for student scholarship and which decade could gain the highest percentage of participation among their graduates.
We had fearless leaders step forward to champion their respective decades. They advocated for our future Titans through outreach to their decades and participated in a trivia game show video hosted by none other than Professor Emeritus of History Patrick Furlong. We thank our decade captains!
Nanci Yokom, BS’76 1967–76
Mike Wargo, AS’81, BGS‘82 1977–86
Chris Craft, BS’89 1987–96
Bryan Ayala, BS’05 1997–06
Ashley Schmitt Reed, AS’09, BS’12 2007–18
Community partners stepped forward to underwrite one decade each prior to the kick.off of the campaign. These corporate pillars share in our commitment to educate the community in which we live, work, and play. Thank you to 1st Source Bank, Crowe, Gurley Leep Automotive Group, IU South Bend, and Saint Joseph Health System for your fantastic support.
The Battle of the Decades brought nearly 100 donors together in support of the IU South Bend Jubilee Alumni Scholarship with an impact of $20,627!
Our first decade of graduates, 1967–76, gained the highest percentage of participation, and our second decade of graduates, 1977–86, raised the most money for scholarship. Congratulations on winning the 2018 Battle of the Decades!
Thanks to all participants’ enthusiasm and support, our Titan scholars are the real winners of this battle! We look forward to the next competition to see who is fired up and ready to make a difference in the education of our future alumni.
